Kami Chess 1.6.2 for Android ================================ Chess on a 3D board with boxwood and walnut pieces. Play a friend on one phone or tablet, turning the board between them with a finger, play against the computer, or, with a Kami Chess account, play other players online. The file -------- kami-chess-1.6.2-android-arm64.apk SHA-256 db5dea3deb3f4f278a3002ddbcf1dc3ac19eaf4e6f31ad28c7b3066354b4b0ae The number above is what the file should be. If you want to check it before you install, copy the file to a computer and run sha256sum kami-chess-1.6.2-android-arm64.apk (Linux) shasum -a 256 kami-chess-1.6.2-android-arm64.apk (macOS) certutil -hashfile kami-chess-1.6.2-android-arm64.apk SHA256 (Windows) and compare. A file that differs was damaged on the way or is not this one: do not install it. Installing ---------- This app comes from kamidesigns.be and not from a store, so Android asks you twice before it will install it. Both questions are normal for a file you downloaded yourself, and both are yours to answer. 1. Download the .apk file and open it, from the browser's downloads or from the Files app. 2. "For your security, your phone is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source." Android grants that permission per app, so it is your browser (or the Files app) you are allowing, not Kami Chess. Tap Settings, turn on "Allow from this source", and go back. You can turn it off again afterwards; the game stays installed. You can also find it later under Settings > Apps > Special access > Install unknown apps. 3. "Unsafe app blocked" or "App scan recommended" from Play Protect. Play Protect flags every app that did not come from Google Play, including this one. Tap More details, then Install anyway. 4. Tap Install, then Open. To remove the game, uninstall it like any other app: press and hold its icon, then App info > Uninstall. Nothing is left behind. If you already have an older Kami Chess on the device and the install fails with "App not installed", uninstall the old one first and install again. Playing ------- Tap a piece, then tap Move. Legal squares light up when a piece is a highlighted square selected. A pawn reaching the last rank opens a choice of four pieces on the board: tap one. Drag with one finger Turn the camera around the board. Pinch with two fingers Zoom in and out. Beside the board (below it when you hold the device upright) are the status line and four buttons. The status line says whose turn it is, that the computer is thinking, and how the game ended, by checkmate or a draw. Undo Takes back a move. Against the computer it takes back its reply and your move. Flip Turns the board to the other player's side. Reset Puts the view back where it started. The position stays. Menu Opens the menu. To play against the computer, tap Menu and choose under Play against the side the computer plays, White or Black; you play the other one. Nobody, where the game starts, is two players on one device. Strength sets how strong the computer plays: Gentle, Steady (where it starts) or Strong. A new strength applies from the computer's next move; a move it is already thinking about keeps the strength it started with. While the computer thinks, its half of the board frame pulses and the board ignores taps. The menu also holds How to play, the game in a few lines; Privacy, which opens the privacy policy (kamidesigns.be/privacy/kami-chess) in your browser; and the version. On How to play, Close goes back to the menu. Close on the menu, or a tap outside the menu, closes it. Under Account, Log in opens the Kami Chess login page (auth.kamidesigns.be) over the game, and Create account opens its form for a new account. Once you have logged in there, the page closes by itself and the game shows the name you are logged in as. It stays logged in the next time you start it, until you choose Log out. The game keeps its login inside itself, sealed with a key that Android keeps for it and never lets out, and never in a backup; Log out removes it. Logged in, Multiplayer lists the players of Kami Chess: those online now first, the others greyed, and beside each name your wins and losses against them (-/- before your first game). Tap a name to challenge that player, online or not; they see the challenge in Your games, which also holds your open and finished games and your record. An online game has no time limit and waits for as long as it takes: close Kami Chess or log out, and it is still there in Your games. In an online game Resign stands where Undo was, and the result says whom you won or lost against. Back, the gesture or the button, closes How to play, and then the menu. With no menu open, Back puts the game in the background without ending it: open Kami Chess again and the game is where you left it. The board stays on the screen when you rotate the device, and keeps the angle you left it at. What it needs ------------- - Android 7.0 (Nougat) or newer. - A 64-bit ARM device (arm64-v8a), which is every phone and tablet sold for years. A device with a 32-bit or an Intel processor cannot install this file. - OpenGL ES 3.0 graphics, which those devices have. The download is 3.3 MB. The one permission it asks for is the Internet, and it goes online only for your account: to log in, and while you are logged in, to say that you are playing, to show the other players and to play your online games. Without an account it sends nothing anywhere. It stores nothing outside itself. What an account keeps, and what other players see, is in the privacy policy for accounts (kami-chess.kamidesigns.be/privacy). Licences -------- The licences of the libraries built into the game are in the file kami-chess-1.6.2-android-arm64-THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt beside this one.
